Warm Weather Hair Trends with Celeb Stylist Jet Rhys

By Laura Carson Miller

If you’re ready to change up your hair for the warmer weather, join the club, and I’ve got expert intel from celebrity stylist Jet Rhys, owner of the Jet Rhys Salon in San Diego, about the cut and color trends coming our way for spring and summer.

#1 Short Hair – Don’t Care

Super heroine Scarlett Johansson proves short hair isn’t just for men! When cut just right, this super easy low maintenance short haircut this look is ultra feminine.

“The new gamine cut is the updated look of the pixie, Jet explains. Fall in love with your new cut by having your stylist add some razored layers.’

Insider tip- Find a stylist who specializes in Razor cutting and ask for weight removal instead of short layers.

Why? It will let you achieve freeform, lived in texture. Plus, the razor allows hair to look piecy with minimal layers.

#2 Long Hair: Go with the Flow

Say goodbye to curls and waves that are on purpose!

According to Rhys, long hair with lots of movement and texture is the focus in the salon this spring and summer season. Combining come-hither bangs and strategic face framing layering with long hair cuts produce locks that command attention.

Insider Tip- Ask your stylist to point cut the face framing layers.

Why? If the layers are to blunt your cut will look choppy and hang near your face instead of hugging your features.

#3- Rock the Undone Bun

Who doesn’t love the undone bun!

‘We’ve been styling our clients in the salon with what we like to call the low-rider undone bun, says Rhys, and it’s as easy as it is sexy and beautiful! Simply gather your hair into a low ponytail, twist two times from the base of the head, secure with an elastic and pull mid section of hair through the elastic – this is the hair that drapes over and hangs out of the secured pony.’

Insider tip- Don’t think too hard or try to make this style look perfect, as this casual but polished low-do is meant to be loose and airy.

#4 Move On From Balayage

Balayage was great while it lasted but has run its course.

Why? Rhys says women no longer want the casual look of hair painting and the dark shadowed roots are a thing of the past. Hollywood has a new blonde and it’s the latest color explosion called color ribbons. Colorists at Jet’s salon clandestinely and haphazardly weave and slice-in a broad spectrum of baby blonde blends of cool tones from ice blonde to mink, or cashmere to butter cream that are integrated throughout the hair for a look beyond luxe. These tone-on-tone blondes are coveted for their shine and wow factor meaning all brashness is banned.

Insider tip-   Protect your investment. After your color service its essential to have a conditioning treatment. The treatment locks in the color.
