United Way of Atlanta Silence the Growl
By Laura Carson Miller
Let’s face it, the focus on food, for me, my husband and my family and friends, well it’s huge. We all love eating and we all enjoy food. What’s truly meaningful and super important is that we have access to all the food we want, whenever we want it.
Many children are not so lucky.
And it’s heartbreaking. And we can all help!
United Way of Greater Atlanta is kicking off its second annual Silence the Growl – its campaign to fight summer hunger among children who receive federally funded free and reduced meals during the school year. Last year, United Way and its partners fed more than 7,000 meals to children that are not part of a summer lunch program. This year’s goal is to provide more than 15,000 meals. The campaign ends June 1.
“Throughout the 13-county region, more than 300,000 children run the risk of losing one or more meals each day during the summer,” says United Way of Greater Atlanta president Milton J. Little, Jr. “No child should go hungry. Last year our community stepped up and provided more than 7,000 meals to children. This year, we hope to double that.” There are several ways you can get involved and partner with United Way’s Silence the Growl campaign.
