I was fortunate to grow up with two grandmothers and a mother who all whipped fabulous food, including desserts. Now that both my grandmother’s have passed, one of the ways I continue to connect with them is through their fabulous tried and true recipes.
My husband happens to be a huge praline fan, so this recipe for pralines is always a winner here in the Miller house. There are wonderful all by themselves, but last summer we bought an ice cream maker and lo and behold we can now make my husbands fave ice cream from scratch….Pralines and Cream.
Grama Carson’s Pralines
What you’ll need:
2 cups sugar
1 TSP baking soda
1 cup buttermilk
2 ½ cup pecans broken into large pieces
2 TBS butter
What you’ll do:
Combine ingredients in 4 quart saucepan. Bring to boil and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add the pecans and butter and bring to a boil again, stirring continually for 5 minutes or until a few drops form a soft ball in cold water.
Remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes. Beat until it begins to thicken.
Drop by teaspoons on waxed paper.
These little treats are easy to make and fun to snack on! And if you don’t want to make pralines yourself you can always order them online!
